Boost Re-Calibration Jets

Although initially, it was very intimidating, once I got going it was a lot easier than I thought. Installing the boost jets just required a bit of patience.

Basically I have to insert each of the two little boost re-calibration jets into a small hose under each of the main air inlet tubes.

This is the left side of the engine where I'll be inserting one of the boost re-calibration jets. It's under this big main air inlet tube that I will the find smaller hose into which I'll be inserting the jets. There are two large tubes, it's under the one towards the middle of the engine.

Ok... on the right side, is where I'll approach first. Notice under the main air inlet tube, there is a small hose. On this small hose is a small metal clip that clamps the hose onto a tube.

Press on this metal clip and move it 'up' the hose ( ie. towards the dash). Then grab hold of the hose at or just below the metal clip (just so that the metal clip doesn't slide off the hose and down into the engine bay), and pull. If it's not too old... it should just 'pop' right out. Mine was very tight and uncooperative, so I twisted it clockwise and counterclockwise, and wiggled it up and down. This took all my patience (but that was because mine was sooooo stuck).

Ok... back to the left side. On the left side, in order to get to the small hose, I had to remove the big main air inlet tube. See in this picture the missing air inlet tube? In a previous picture, I'll see that there are two hose clamps at either end of the air inlet tube. I just have to loosen these hose clamps and then remove the air inlet tube.

Look down to where the bottom part of the big air inlet tube was connected to. If I look just below this now-open metal tube, I'll see that attached to it, is a small hose. This is the small hose that I want to get at. Notice the same metal clip as was seen on the other side. Using the same technique... move the metal clip 'up' the small hose. Unplug/disconnect the small hose.

Back to the right side. I've got the small hose out. Finally!!! This is what it looks like. I'm holding it up with a screwdriver for you to see! ;-)

Insert a jet into each of the small hoses. Insert with the 'pointy' end going in first. It's shaped kind of like a little bullet head... the nose goes in first. Insert it just enough so that the back of the jet is flush with the small hose (ie. That it's all the way into the hose... but no deeper). Now... just with my pinky finger, push it just a little bit further in. Now reconnect these small hoses ... and the piece where I'll be reconnecting these small hoses, will push the jets further down the hose. It won't push it so far down that if you ever have to remove it, it'll be too much of a pain. Re-connect everything that I had disconnected, and I'm done.

A small tip if you ever have to remove the jets. If you have the little hose removed, then you simply have to squeeze the hose just below where the jet is placed... and slowly but firmly squeeze the jet out, like you would toothpaste. If you find that this does not move it out fast enough for you, you can wrap a rag around the hose just below the jet, and then squeeze the hose with a pair of pliers.... at the same time... holding the open end of the hose in your hand... you can wobble it back and forth to help the jet move back up out of the hose. Remember... you do NOT want to drop these little jets back into your car somewhere. They aren't the biggest/easiest thing to find!! ;-).

Ta-Dah!!!
